10 Fun (and random) Facts About Me

1. I’m studying in college for a journalism and a photography AA. I’m super crazy about grades and will do all extra credit work. My plan is to go to school over the summer so I can get done faster, but online so I can work more hours (although I’m already pretty much full-time). If you asked me what I looked forward to most each day I’d tell you bedtime. (I know I’ve become so boring.)

2. I’ve become a shoe freak over the last couple years. I just got a pair of checkerboard vans I’m in love with (swoon). I love skateboard shoes and sneakers! But no heels! I actually just bought my first pair of heels today because I needed black shoes for my choir concert and they were the cheapest shoes at the thrift shop. I’m throwing them out directly after the concert. Who invented such painful flimsy contraptions?

3. I waitress at a Mexican restaurant and lifeguard at the YMCA. I love both my jobs and I think they’re pretty cool. One of my bucket list items is to work as many different odd jobs as possible, so I’d like to add the ski resort this winter.

4. Right now my favorite TV shows are When Calls the Heart and Liv & Maddie. My all-time favorite is Bonanza! (Cause Candy is the best!)

5. I LOVE the Canadian Anne of Green Gables! I could do an Anne marathon any night! (Well, any night I wasn’t at work or had homework due…)

6. My style…..I love jeans and a sweatshirt. And if I’m home its sweatpants. In summer I run in T-shirts and swim shorts.

7. I try to be creative but often fail. I was going to buy a cute daily planner to journal and sketch in but I opted out for the cheap $2 one in the end, which was a good decision because all I fill it with is to-do lists.

8. I think it would be super fun to run an old-fashioned 1940s ice cream parlor.

9. I plan to work on a cruise ship when I finish up college, so I can “see the world.”

10. When I get enough funds, I plan to build the “Ponderosa.” (That super cool ranch in Bonanza.) I realllllly want a bunkhouse. Then I can host retreats.

We climbed Berray!

We climbed Berray . . . and it was a blast!

Elevation: 6,177′   Berray Mountain Lookout

Just like in The Summer of Our LivesI decided to hike up to Berray mountain lookout, so I could have the same experience that Mary Ellen does in the first book of the All for Jesus Gang!

The gang all showed up at our house after breakfast, since we lived the closest to Mr. Morton. Dad piled us up in the back of the truck and drove us over to his little cabin at the bottom of Berray mountain.
“Look at how high it is,” said Major, cranking his neck back.

The trail was 10.6 miles round trip, and ranked as moderately difficult. It took us 3 1/2 hrs to get up, including breaks.

There was a little pond about 3 miles up, and we followed a creek for part of the way. The mountain was covered in huckleberry and thimble berry bushes.

The lookout was awesome! We climbed up the three stair flights and went inside.

It was beautiful up top, and a little colder, like the Professor said. We all paused and took in the view surrounding us. Almost every way I looked I could see for miles. Something about it made me feel closer to God – just the stillness and beauty of His creation. Overlooking in awe what the Creator’s hand had fashioned made Mary Ellen Tucker feel very small, very small indeed.

It took us about 2 hrs to get back down. I am looking forward to writing about the hike in the book!

watching the rodeo – the best part of fair

This August was my last year showing as a 4-H member at the fair. I showed a lamb and pig for the first time, plus showing dairy goat, market goat, and poultry.

I also got to participate in small and large animal round robin (where you show all the species as one big competition) and got 1st in both.

Noxon, Montana

Here are some pictures from a fun little road trip I got to take to visit Noxon, Montana – the hometown location of Mary Ellen and the All for Jesus Gang. Bull River was overflowing from all the snow melt, and the little general store was similar to what I’d imagined the Professor’s family’s general store would look like.
